# Questions and answers

The same answers as in the app (Settings > About > Questions and answers), about logging, the doctor report, Stool Log Plus, and privacy. Can't find yours? [Write to us](https://stoollog.com/support).

## Logging

### What do stool types 1 to 7 mean?

They come from the Bristol Stool Scale, which doctors use to describe stools. Type 1 is separate hard lumps and type 7 is watery, with no solid pieces.

Types 1 and 2 count as hard, 3 to 5 as regular, and 6 and 7 as loose, in Insights and in the doctor report.

### How do I log a day I missed?

Tap + and choose what to log, then tap When. Pick one of the last seven days, or Earlier… for an older one, and set the time.

You can also choose the day in Calendar and tap its Add button, such as “Add to Monday”.

### What does “I didn't go” do?

It marks a day with no stool, so your diary and the doctor report show a day without a stool rather than a day that wasn't logged. With constipation, that difference matters.

Today's timeline asks “Did you go today?” until a stool is logged, Calendar asks about past days, and you can answer from the reminder too (Settings > Remind me to log). A stool logged for that day later takes its place.

### Can I keep a diary for my child or a parent?

Yes. Tap the name at the top of Today (“Me” at first), then Add a person. People in Settings does the same.

Each person has their own Today, calendar, insights and report. The person chosen at the top of Today is who you log for, in the widgets and on Apple Watch too.

### Can someone else log on their own phone?

Not yet. Your logs sync only between your own devices, signed in to your Apple Account. Sharing a diary with someone else's phone isn't available yet.

Until then, one phone keeps the diary, and the doctor report or the CSV file is the way to share it.

### Why isn't my medicine in the list?

The free list is American, so some medicines sold in other countries aren't in it. The built-in list adds common gut medicines from elsewhere, like Buscopan, Movicol and mebeverine.

If yours still isn't there, type its name. Any name saves.

## Insights and the doctor report

### What's in the doctor report?

The free report covers your last 14 days: red flags, your questions for the visit, key numbers such as stools a day and the longest gap, each day's stools, and Bristol types.

The full report, part of Stool Log Plus, covers 14, 30 or 90 days and adds symptoms, medicines, a calendar and a daily diary.

Create it from the last card in Insights. It's a PDF you can share or print, or a CSV spreadsheet with every log. Photos are never included.

### Why is Possible links empty?

It needs about two weeks of logs first. Then it compares the days you had a food or drink, and the day after, with your other days: loose stools, hard stools and symptoms. A food needs to be logged on at least 5 days, so logging what you eat is what gives it something to compare.

It shows a link only when the difference is clear. If you track periods or daily goals, they're compared the same way. A link is a pattern to ask your doctor about, not proof that one thing causes the other.

### Can Stool Log tell me what's wrong?

Stool Log is a diary, not a diagnosis. Share your report with a doctor for advice.

## Stool Log Plus

### What does Plus add, and what stays free?

Stool Log Plus adds the full doctor report, up to 6 daily goals (3 are free) and the toilet timer (3 timers are free to try). Goals you set keep counting if Plus ends; only adding more waits.

Everything else is free: logging, the calendar, reminders, widgets, Apple Watch, diaries for other people, Possible links, the basic report with red flags, and the CSV file. Logging always stays free.

### How do I cancel the free trial?

In the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Stool Log. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged.

Lifetime is a one-time purchase. Nothing renews, and there's nothing to cancel.

On a new phone, open Stool Log Plus in Settings and tap Restore purchase.

## Privacy and your data

### Where are my logs kept?

Only you can see your logs, on devices signed in to your iCloud. To keep them on this phone only, turn off iCloud for Stool Log in the Settings app.

### Can I get all my logs and photos out?

Yes, for free. In Settings, tap Export all data. It makes one file on this phone with every log, for everyone in Stool Log, as a spreadsheet, and each photo as its own file named by its date and time.

Save it to Files, AirDrop it to a computer or keep it on a drive. Stool Log doesn't send it anywhere, and photos can be left out to keep the file small.

### Why aren't my logs on my other iPhone or iPad?

Logs sync through iCloud between devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Check that both have the latest version of Stool Log and iCloud turned on for Stool Log in the Settings app, then open Stool Log on both. New logs can take a few minutes to arrive.

iCloud sync in Stool Log's Settings shows whether this phone is syncing. Logs from a widget reach iCloud the next time you open Stool Log.

### How does Stool Log work with Apple Health?

Only what you turn on in Settings > Apple Health, and only for your own diary, not other people's.

It can send water, alcoholic drinks, five symptoms (bloating, cramps, nausea, reflux and low appetite), hard and loose stools as Health's Constipation and Diarrhea, and period days. Nothing else about a stool goes to Health.

It can show the medicines you take from Health (iOS 26 or later), period days, and steps and sleep for daily goals. What it reads from Health stays on this phone and never goes to iCloud.

### What does medicine search send?

When you type 4 or more letters of a medicine's name, Stool Log looks them up in a free medicine list from the US National Library of Medicine. Only those letters are sent. Nothing you've logged, no name and no account goes with them, and Stool Log doesn't keep them. Like any website, the library's server can see your internet address.

Your own medicines and the built-in list of common gut medicines are searched on this phone, so they work without a connection.

### Can I hide what Stool Log shows?

Turn on Discreet mode in Settings. Notifications then use no stool words, medicine reminders leave out the medicine's name, the widgets show numbers instead of stool shapes, and the widgets and Apple Watch leave out symptom names.

To ask for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode before Stool Log opens, turn on the lock in the same section.

### What does Stool Log learn about how I use it?

Anonymous counts of which features get used, such as opening the report or adding a widget, so we know what to improve. Never what you log: no stool types, symptoms, foods, medicines, notes or photos.

To stop it, turn off Share usage data in Settings.

### How do I delete everything?

In Settings, tap Delete all data. Every log, for every person, is removed from this phone and from iCloud, so it goes from your other devices too. This can't be undone.

What Stool Log added to Apple Health is removed as well. To delete one person and their logs, use People in Settings.

## Try it free
